Welcome to the Locomotion Boys Choir website. We are a male voice youth choir located in the North East of England, in the Darlington area. Please use the links to the left to navigate this site and find out more information about the choir.
Locomotion was founded on the back of Darlington Operatic Society’s production of “Oliver!” in 2007. The 23 boys involved wanted to stay together as they had enjoyed such a great experience in the show.

We were lucky that at the same time there was a small group of parents, Darlington Operatic Society and Cleveland Philharmonic Choir members willing to search for a venue and choir teachers to found a choir just for boys. We were fortunate to find Nikki and Ben, who jointly provide experience and inspiration.

We are grateful for the continuing support of Chris Metcalfe, Head of Cockerton Primary School, Darlington for the use of a practice venue.

In addition to Nikki and Ben, the boys are occasionally conducted by Becki Owen-Hughes and Becca Feary.  Both are learning the art of choral conducting through the opportunities presented by Locomotion and regularly assist with rehearsals.    Furthermore, our young conductors often get together to rehearse some duets and part music with our older boys to develop their own singing skills further.

The name Locomotion was chosen because of Darlington's strong railway history. The choir aims to promote male voice singing for both unbroken and broken voices. The choir has gone from strength to strength in the past few years and continues to develop week on week.

The rest as they say, is history!
