Welcome to the Locomotion Boys Choir website. We are a male voice youth choir located in the North East of England; in the Darlington area, and are part of Tees Valley Music Service. Please use the links to the left to navigate this site and find out more information about the choir.
Locomotion was founded on the back of Darlington Operatic Society’s production of “Oliver!” in 2007. The 23 boys involved wanted to stay together as they had enjoyed such a great experience in the show.

We were lucky that at the same time there was a small group of parents, Darlington Operatic Society and Cleveland Philharmonic Choir members willing to search for a venue and choir teachers to found a choir just for boys. We were fortunate to find Nikki and Ben, who jointly provide experience and inspiration.

We are grateful for the continuing support of St Mary's CE Academy, Darlington for the use of a practice venue.

The boys rehearse weekly during term time and new members are always welcome.  We have a very busy concert schedule each year and you can find more information through the links to the left.  On occasion Locomotion Boys Choir joins forces with the all girls chamber choir Showstoppers.  Showstoppers is another Tees Valley Music Service run by Nikki.  Joint concerts and pieces allow the boys to explore a wider variety of repertoire whilst offering our older boys the opportunity of 4 and 5 part singing.  In addition, many of our older boys go on to also sing with Tees Valley Youth Choir.

The name Locomotion was chosen because of Darlington's strong railway history. The choir aims to promote male voice singing for both unbroken and broken voices. The choir has gone from strength to strength in the past few years and continues to develop week on week.

The rest as they say, is history!
